ITG Tutors: Jeff Anderson

1) Can you tell us about your background before joining ITG?

I got a Masters in Applied Math and another Masters in Biophysics and then I spent 10 years in corporate America as a Data Scientist. A year and a half ago, I decided to leave the rat race and have an adventure in Vietnam that allowed me to work with students while exploring a new culture and country.

2) What do you enjoy the most about being a tutor?
I like teaching. As a teacher, you primarily lecture but as a tutor you see the students learn. I feel more like a teacher when I tutor!
3) Have you got a favourite topic to teach?
Calculus.
4) What do you think makes a good tutor?
A good teacher is a motivator and a positive coach.
5) Do you have a favourite teacher/ tutor from your own education? If so, what was so good about him/ her?
My partial differential equations professor; when he solved math problems it was as though he was reading a story.
Finally, what three items would you bring with you to a desert island?
Food, water and a good big book!
